Appraisals highlight value at Fischer Farm Quilt Show

Posted

The Bensenville Park District invites the public to uncover the value of quilts during the Quilt and Fiber Arts Show, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, at Fischer Farm, 16W680 Old Grand Ave.

Quilts, whether newly made or long-held family heirlooms, carry value beyond their practical use.

AQS-certified appraiser Lynn Contri will be available by appointment Saturday, May 16, to provide detailed quilt appraisals.

Quilt appraisals are not limited to antiques. Recently made quilts may also hold significant value based on time invested and material costs.

Appraisals can be important for insurance purposes, helping ensure accurate compensation in the event of loss or damage.

Appointments with Contri may be scheduled by calling or texting 630-254-5511 or emailing quilter124@sbcglobal.net. Walk-ins will be accepted as time allows. Written appraisals are available for a $60 fee per quilt and include a thorough evaluation of the quilt’s physical characteristics, including measurements, stitching, fabric and batting.

Contri will also assess the quilt’s overall condition and gather additional information that may affect value. Consultations are also available for collections for a $40 per hour fee. Visit the LynnContri.com website for more information.

The Quilt and Fiber Arts Show will feature more than 100 quilts and fiber arts pieces, ranging from antique to contemporary works. Displays throughout the 1919 farmhouse will include doll, wall, crib and bed quilts.

In addition to the exhibit, the Quilter’s Barn Sale will offer books, patterns, fabric, quilt blocks, tops and finished quilts.

Fischer Farm is located east of Route 83 and west of Church Road. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger. More information is available at BvilleParks.org/QuiltShow.
